William J. Witherspoon

William “Bill” J. Witherspoon, 84, of Mason City passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024, at IOOF Home and Community Therapy Center. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 4:00 p.m., with visitation starting at 3:30, on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at Grace Evangelical Free Church, 440 N. Illinois Ave, Mason City.

Bill was born on April 22, 1940, in Chicago, IL where he lived with his parents, William & Siiri Witherspoon. He served in the Army and attended Devry Institute of Technology, becoming an elevator and escalator mechanic for Westinghouse Elevator Company. On June 10, 1961, he married the love of his life, Ingrid Olson. They enjoyed a beautiful marriage of 63 years as they walked a life of deep faith in Jesus and raised two daughters.

Bill could fix anything and had a passion for traveling and cars. He belonged to the Model A Restorers Club after restoring his grandfather’s beloved1929 Model A Ford. He also was part of the Good Sam Trailer Club and enjoyed camping, fishing, caring for his much-loved hobby farm, socializing (always with a cup of coffee in his hand), helping anyone in need and enjoying time with Ing (as he called his beloved wife) and family.

Bill is survived by daughters, Marilyn Witherspoon, Dawn (Tim) Thompson; grandchildren, Mike (Caroline) Thompson, Jenny (David) Wagner, Amanda Thompson, Emily (Alvin) Perez; great grandson, Harper Thompson; sister, Joann (Greg) Anderson; brother, Harvey Olson; brother-in-law, Tom Imberger; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by wife, Ingrid Witherspoon; parents, William & Siiri Witherspoon; sister, Judy Imberger and sister-in-law, Mary Olson.
