Wendell Lavern Mahoney was born in the Mahoney home on October 7, 1932, in Mondamin, IA and peacefully passed away to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on June 9, 2025 at the IOOF Home in Mason City.
He was joyfully married to Amy Lou Elthon Mahoney for 66 years and Amy Lou predeceased Wendell and passed away in 2021.
Wendell and Amy Lou had two children that they raised to be fully devoted Christ followers. They are Debbie Lusardi Doyle (Brian Doyle) of Lees Summit, MO and Mark Alan Mahoney (Wendy Hannah Mahoney) of Mason City.
He rejoiced in his five adult grandchildren which include Stephanie Lusardi, Allie Merryman, Jeff Lusardi (Emily), Isaac Mahoney (Laura) and Simeon Mahoney (Phoenix). He also has seven great grandchildren.
Wendell was an ROTC student, member of the marching band and rifle team and graduate of Iowa State University. It was during those college that he met and began to date Amy. He then served as a fixed wing pilot in the United States Army for three years.
He then was a life long farmer in Mondamin for nearly fifty years. He also taught vocational agriculture to Vietnam veterans upon their return. He and his family actively served in the ministry life of Mondamin Baptist Church.
Since then he has been a resident, part time or full time, in Mason City for the last twenty years and wintered for many of those years in Mesa, AZ Wendell was an active member of Grace Church in Mason City and volunteered hundreds of hours at the local hospital.
A Celebration of Life for Wendell will be held at Grace Church, 440 N Illinois Ave in Mason City on Saturday, June 14th at 11:00 AM. Refreshments and a time to greet family will follow the service.
