Victoria M. French

Victoria M. French, 77, of Mason City, passed away on January 21, 2026 at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center. A celebration to honor Vicki’s life will be planned for the spring. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Victoria Marie French was born in Mason City, Iowa on January 8, 1949, to Stanley and Gladys Ardella (Severson) Anderberg. She attended the Mason City School District, and graduated from Mason City High School on June 6, 1967. Afterwards, she would marry her high school sweetheart, Robert French, and the two would remain together until Robert’s passing in 1996. The couple were blessed with two daughters, Elizabeth and Robee, and later with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom were adored. Later in life, Vicki was fortunate enough to meet Steve Lewis, who would become her life partner for the rest of her years.

Vicki was a dedicated worker and spent a good number of years at each position she held. She was employed as a manager at Northwestern States Employees Credit Union; as owner of Diamond Dave’s Restaurant and Lounge, alongside her husband, Robert; and most recently at Tompkin’s Law Office, where she was employed from 2017 until the time of her passing.

A lifelong learner, Vicki could accomplish anything she set her mind to. She could be found tending to her vegetable garden, learning as she went, or reading down at the library to teach herself how to work on her own cars. In 2012, Vicki returned to NIACC in her early 60’s. She emerged two years later with a Medical Transcription degree, a diploma in Medical Coding, and another in Medical Office Assistance—all while maintaining her position on the Dean’s List, the President’s List, and within the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, proving it is truly never too late to pursue one’s passions or education.

As a friend, family member, coworker, and neighbor, Vicki was full of love and kindness. She could always strike up a friendly conversation, and never hesitated to offer a helping hand to anyone. She loved animals of all sorts as much as she loved indulging in her coffee and chocolates. Victoria French was a rare, precious soul, and she will be deeply missed.

Vicki is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth (Nick) Hesse and Robee French; grandsons, Nick O’Dell and Drake (Olivia Miley) Anthony; great-grandchildren, Iris and Jaxon; brother, Jim (Ridgely Fuller) Anderberg; and her life partner, Steve Lewis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Ardella Anderberg; her husband, Robert French; and brother, Jay Anderberg.
