Valory Glen Schadt was born on August 12, 1945, to parents Gene and Marie Gardner. He was raised by his grandparents, Harold V. and Sarah (Burns) Schadt. Valory graduated from Mason City High School in 1963.
After graduation, Valory worked one summer at the Happy Holiday Farm as a boy’s counselor, and while there, he met the owner’s daughter, Bernita Van Fossen. The couple were married on September 11, 1965, at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Mason City. To this union, the couple were blessed with two sons.
Throughout the years, Valory worked several jobs, but the most notable was driving buses for the Mason City School District, and later the North Iowa Bus Company. Valory worked there for over 50 years, and it was something he truly enjoyed doing.
In his free time, Valory enjoyed horses, woodworking, golfing, going out to eat with Bee, camping with his sons, and attending rendezvous. To his family, he will be forever remembered by his grumpy exterior, but on the inside, he had the softest heart. He would help anybody that needed a helping hand.
Valory was a loving and kind husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed by those who knew him and loved him.
Valory is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Bee Schadt; his sons, Russell and Harold W. Schadt; three grandchildren, Nichole (Cody) Hallman, Kalee (Tyler) Reed, and Caleb Schadt; 3 great grandchildren, Gabriel, Willow, and Vanessa; and siblings, Kitty Clasing, Cheryl Madsen, Aaron Sullivan, Martin Sullivan, John Sullivan, and Cozette Alexandres.
Valory was preceded in death by his parents, Marie and Gene Gardner and Harold and Sarah Schadt; and sister, Ellen Page.
