Susan (Sue) M. Frelund, 82, of Mason City, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 10 at the IOOF Home in Mason City. Memorials may be directed in Sue's memory to Girl Scout Camp Tanglefoot (Clear Lake, Iowa), St. John's Episcopal Church (Mason City, Iowa) or the Alzheimer's Association.

Sue was born on February 11, 1943, in Mason City to Ray and Florence (Martin) Whorley. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1961 and went on to study home economics at Iowa State University, where she was a proud member of the Delta Zeta sorority. In 1962, she married Warren Frelund, and together they raised three daughters.

Sue and Warren owned and operated Kemble's Flowers for 30 years. Many in the community fondly remember Sue's warmth and creativity as she helped them select floral arrangements for birthdays, holidays, weddings, and memorial services. Having purchased the business from her father, Ray Whorley, Sue discovered early on the joy of bringing beauty and comfort to others through flowers—a passion she carried throughout her life.

Beyond her work, Sue found joy in reading, cooking, and knitting, and she delighted in sharing these hobbies with her daughters, grandchildren, and friends. She was deeply committed to community service, especially causes that uplift and empower women. A lifetime member of Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., Sue served as board president of the North Iowa Girl Scout Council, and was most proud of serving as troop leader for all three of her daughters and supporting them in developing leadership skills.

Sue was also an active member of P.E.O. Chapter IW, serving in several leadership roles including president, and participated in the Mason City Panhellenic organization. A lifelong and devoted member of St. John's Episcopal Church, she served on the vestry and was deeply involved in children's ministry, including organizing Sunday School and Vacation Bible School programs.

Sue remained closely connected to her Mason City High School Class of 1961, cherishing friendships and memories through reunion gatherings and alumni activities.

Sue is lovingly remembered by her three daughters and their spouses: Jeanne (Jim) Cornick of Mason City; Liz (Jeff) Croston of Sioux City, Iowa; and Molly (Mike) Anderegg of Mason City. She was a proud grandma to Jenna (Julian) Leirer, Jess Cornick, Nicholas (Caitlyn) Croston, Emily Croston, Patrick Anderegg, and Emma Anderegg and great grandma to Hayden Croston.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Frelund; her parents, Ray and Florence Whorley; and her brothers, Bill Whorley and Fred Whorley.

The family is deeply grateful for the loving care by the IOOF staff shown to Sue during her time as a resident and the support of St Croix Hospice in her final days.
