Ruth Ann Schmidt

Ruth Ann Schmidt, 88, died on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Faith Baptist Church, 1807 S Kentucky Ave. with Pastor Tim Moore officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene, IA. Memorials may be directed to the family of Ruth Schmidt.

Ruth Ann Schmidt was born on February 4, 1935. Her parents were Ida May (McDaniel) and Henry W. Halverson. She was born in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School in 1953.

She was united in marriage to Mervin Schmidt on February 18, 1955. They lived in the rural Greene area where she enjoyed helping Mervin with farming and livestock, working in the garden, canning and raising their children.

After attending a revival service, she placed her faith and trust in Jesus Christ when she was 33 years old. She loved old gospel hymns and would often sing her beloved hymns while making dinner for her family.

In 2006 they sold the farm and moved to Mason City where she was a member at Faith Baptist Church. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Mervin, son Steven Schmidt of Greene and daughter Brenda (Loren) Stoneberg of Bondurant, grandchildren Derek (Brandi) Schmidt of Newton, Erik (Hannah) Stoneberg of Ankeny, Dustin Schmidt of Newton, Rachael (Richard) White of Omak, WA, Daniel Gramowski of Des Moines, and Paige Gramowski of Des Moines and several great-grandchildren; brothers Donald Halverson and George (Marge) Halverson, sisters IdaMay (Lyle) Sorenson, Shirley Sahr and Mary Jane (Larry) Buckman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ida and Henry Halverson, sisters Sandra Thoman-Touet and Marlene Halverson, son Richard Schmidt and daughter Sara Schmidt.
