Ronald Jon Sorensen passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2025 in Mason City, Iowa at the age of 85. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to a charity of your choice or a favorite memory can be shared at https://everloved.com/life-of/ronald-sorensen/.
Known for his detailed and thoughtful engineering designs, he knew how to fix just about everything. Ron was always willing to lend a hand, and he believed that most things could be repaired or improved. It was this mindset that led him to leave behind a lasting impact and a lot of tools! Other hobbies included reading books about World War II, racing an Austin-Healey Sprite with the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and playing the trumpet.
Ron was born to Theodore (Ted) and Louise Sorensen in 1940. Raised in Rockwell City, Iowa, his career in manufacturing engineering first took him to Illinois where he met his wife of 56 years, Joanne Kennedy while working at Ampex. He worked for Cooper Industries for 18 years, during which time he had two daughters. He raised them in New Berlin, Wisconsin while working for Master Lock. Ron retired in 2010 and moved back to Iowa in 2022.
Ron is survived by his wife, Joanne Sorensen; by his two daughters, Katrina (and Mike) Allen and Karla (and Mick) Nyquist; and by his two grandchildren, Oliver Allen and Arabella Allen. He is preceded in death by his parents and his older brother Gary Sorensen.
