Roger Edward Burt, 62, of Mason City, Iowa, was welcomed into the arms of the Lord on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. An open-house Celebration of Life will be held at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N Pennsylvania Ave, Mason City, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2026. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Roger was born in Hampton, Iowa on October 2, 1963, the adopted son of and only child of Charles and Rosemary (Matheison) Burt. While he attended the Mason City School System, Roger also with the family business, C&R Excavating Company, and spent a good deal of time performing demolitions and construction as he grew up. He worked alongside his father as they built the Mason City Wendy’s, and was proud to have tasted the first burger ever cooked there. Outside of work and school, Roger played baseball growing up, and later in life would enjoy watching his grandchildren as they began to play as well.
After Roger completed his schooling, he held a wide variety of jobs, including positions with Cargill, Woodharbor, Curries, and Mason City Recycling. On his off days, he would install carpet, and enjoyed spending time with his lifelong friends in the neighborhood, namely the Colbys, Solums, Paulsens, and Ringhams.
Roger was blessed with two sons, Matthew and Chase, whom he loved dearly. Growing up, spending time with their dad often meant taking go-karts, mopeds, or dirtbikes out for a spin in the country. At other times, the family would drive up north to explore the Minnesota State Fair or the Mall of America. Roger was a huge fan of rock n’ roll, and the music of the Eagles in particular was a common accompaniment for these trips. In his own time, Roger attended a great many concerts over the years, and was also a muscle car enthusiast, being the proud owner of a 1973 Nova Supersport and a 1986 Camaro Z28. As the years went by and Roger became a grandfather, he took a great deal of joy in spending time with them as well.
In death, Roger returns to the loving embrace of his God, and is reunited with his parents. Those left to treasure his memory are his sons, Matthew and Chase Burt, and Roger’s grandchildren.
