Robert H. Fowler, 92, of Mason City, IA, passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at Homestead Assisted Living of Mason City. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N Pennsylvania Ave. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service time. Burial will be held in the Wayside Cemetery, Chapin, Iowa.
Robert Fowler was born on October 20, 1933, in Union, Iowa to parents, David and Florence (Prindle) Fowler. Robert graduated from Mason City High School. Robert was born shorter than the average person which garnered him the nickname “Shorty” by some family and friends. At a young age Robert could best be described as a rowdy one. While still in high school he ran away to join the circus. That was short lived as his mother and the sheriff brought him back home. After graduating Robert began working for the Globe Gazette and did so for many years. He also worked at the bowling alley setting the bowling pins and at the movie theater changing the names of the movies on the marquee. Sometime in his 30’s Robert met Sandy. The couple was united in marriage and moved to North Dakota where Robert worked as a janitor at one of the colleges. When Sandy passed away Robert moved back to Mason City.
Robert loved to bowl. Throughout the years he amassed a rather large collection of bowling trophies. He was a member of the Little People of America and always enjoyed traveling to the conventions. Robert will be remembered for his willingness to help others and how much he loved his family.
Robert is survived by his sisters, Jan (Gary) Faktor, Susan Chapin; special friend, Verna Humburg; 8 nephews and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy; parents, David and Florence; siblings, Edward Fowler, Janet Kay Pinta and Walter Clemons.
