Robert “Bob” John Valley, 75, of Clear Lake, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at MercyOne Medical Center Des Moines. A visitation will be held on Friday, April 17, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Major Erickson Funeral Home in Mason City, Iowa. A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
Born December 30, 1950, in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, Bob was the son of Robert G. and Wilma Valley. He attended Prairie du Chien High School and went on to live a life full of hard work and adventures.
Bob was a man of many talents and careers throughout his life. He spent time welding on oil rigs across the country, running a convenience store, an auto dealership, and an auto repair shop. He worked as a casino dealer and floor supervisor, where he met his love of 29 years, Lou Ann. Together, they built not only a life but also several successful ventures, including a pallet business.
From his previous marriage, Bob was blessed with three children: Kenny, Rhea, and Nic, who were a source of pride throughout his life. His life, full of experiences, meant he always had a story to tell. One of his most memorable journeys was traveling the Mississippi River by cabin cruiser all the way to the Gulf of Mexico with his oldest son, Kenny. He also often talked about bowling with his children, competing in leagues, and winning championships. He enjoyed playing cards, which carried over into frequently trying his luck on the slots or at the table games in the casino.
Bob’s home with Lou Ann was a gathering place for family, especially on the Fourth of July. He would spend the day taking the kids out tubing on the boat and always ended the evening watching fireworks on the lake.
Bob was known for his quick wit and solid advice. He was often the first person his family would call for help. He was proud of his children and grandchildren and enjoyed sitting back, taking in the crazy surrounding him, and offering his two cents.
Bob is survived by his children, Kenny (Grace) Valley of Iowa City, Iowa; Rhea (Hugo) Cano of Dyersville, Iowa; and Nic (Savannah) Valley of Urbandale, Iowa. He is also survived by his beloved partner of 29 years, Lou Ann, and her daughters, Mandy and Sherrie. Twelve grandchildren: Marcus (Lynn) Cano, Logan Cano, Maya Cano, Nathan Valley, Elise Valley, Conrad Valley, Bronson Valley, Christian Hernandez, Maricela Herreguin, Marcelino Herreguin, Monica Herreguin, and Miya Davis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Wilma Valley.
Bob will be remembered for his ability to make everyone around him laugh. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who knew and loved him.
