Richard D. Tillou

Richard D. Tillou, 95, formerly of Mason City passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Cascade Creek Memory Care, Rochester, MN. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N Pennsylvania Avenue with Pastor Miles Grismore officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service time. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Faith Baptist Church. 

Richard Tillou was born on August 30, 1928, in Richland Center, WI to parents John and Audrey (Thompson) Tillou. Richard graduated from Richland Center High School. He received his Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Wartburg College while being a four-year letterman on the baseball team. He then obtained his master’s degree from Colorado State University. On August 8, 1951, Richard was united in marriage to Carol Lehmann in Rock Rapids, IA. In July of 1952, Richard joined the United States Air Force serving in the Korean Conflict and received an honorable discharge in 1956. Richard served as a teacher and coach for 34 years with 29 being in the Mason City School District. 

Richard was a member of the VFW, Ducks Unlimited, and Ruffed Grouse Society; he was an avid outdoorsman and was a Scout Master with the Boy Scouts.

Richard was survived by his children, Lynn (Michael) Meints and David (Liz) Tillou; grandchildren, Anna Meints, Sarah (Nate) Chivers, and Hannah Tillou; great grandchildren, Jack and Owen Chivers.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Tillou and parents.
