Peter "Pete" Mariner, of Mason City, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at age 94. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 19, 2026 at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City.

Pete was born to Wilson J. and Yolanda Mariner on January 21, 1932 in Mason City. He attended Mason City High School, graduating in 1951. He was the oldest brother among five other siblings and was a fiercely loyal and loving presence in their lives. When he lost his father at an early age, Pete became the "man of the family" and stepped up to help take care of the household. Growing up during the hard times of the Depression era instilled in Pete a resourceful spirit and willingness to persevere through any challenge. He developed many skills, including a knack for repairing practically anything. He was known as a "fix-it-guy" who had an extensive tool collection and seemingly endless wealth of knowledge. His sharp mind and diligent work ethic allowed him to excel in a variety of trades, most recently as a skilled electrician. Pete also had a gift for gardening, and for many years supplied family, friends, and neighbors with fresh vegetables he nourished from seedlings.

Pete met his wife, Genielle "Jen" Henry, at the YWCA in Mason City. He was there to pick up a date but recalled seeing Jen walking down the stairs in her blue jeans and declared, "that was it." Pete and Jen married in 1954 and together they defined the notion of a loving and devoted marriage. They shared a deep, abiding respect for one another along with an unwavering mutual affection and adoration. Pete and Jen were blessed with two children, Debra and Michael. Pete was a genuinely proud, dedicated father, steadfast provider and protector. When he became a grandfather, he lavished his grandchildren with warmth, affection, and a healthy dose of wisdom. "Gramps" could always be counted on for warm snuggles and entertaining tales of his younger years.

Fond memories of Pete will live on forever in the hearts of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved so dearly. His soul and body are at peace now, resting with his beloved wife.

Left to cherish Pete's memory are his daughter Debra (Dennis) Orpen and son Michael (Judy) Mariner, his granddaughters Jennifer (Noah) Lighthall and Stephanie (Joe Scioscia) Henderson, great-grandchildren Natalia, Ethan, and Ava Lighthall, Emily and Jacob Henderson, and Madison Pytlak. Pete is also survived by his sister, Virginia Blakesley and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings Mary Lou, Westley, Gary, and Lenna, and his eternally loving wife of 66 years, Genielle.
