Michael Chester Coborn was born on November 5, 1952, in Fargo, North Dakota, to Carol (Larson) Coborn and Chester Coborn. He graduated from the University of Northern Iowa. On May 31, 1975, Michael married the love of his life, Rhonda Coborn, at Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor, Iowa. They celebrated 50 years of marriage this year. Together, they welcomed three children—Heather, Eric, and Megan—and raised their family in Mason City.

Mike was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He proudly served Farm Bureau Insurance for 40 years and was a devoted member of the Mason City Morning Kiwanis Club. An avid runner, Mike completed multiple marathons, including the Stu Neverman, Des Moines Marathon, Grandma’s Marathon, and the Twin Cities Marathon, and he became an Ironman at the age of 64. He also loved camping and fishing with his children. Many of the family’s fondest memories include camping in Decorah, trips to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, ice fishing, and visits to the cabin in northern Minnesota. Mike especially loved his dog, Boo, who was his loyal companion in later years.

Mike was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Lindsey Coborn; his parents, Carol (Larson) and Chester Coborn; his father-in-law, Lewellyn Hippen; his mother-in-law, Margaret Hippen; and his brother-in-law, Lonnie Hippen.

He is survived by his wife, Rhonda Coborn; his children, Heather (Michael) Englin, Eric (Jamie) Coborn, and Megan Coborn; and his grandchildren, Jack Englin, Lauren Englin, and London Coborn, along with a granddaughter expected in October 2025. He is also survived by his sisters, Melanie (Jim) Satin and Maureen Graber, as well as many extended family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to The ALS Association, 1300 Wilson Blvd., Suite 600, Arlington, VA 22209, or to Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, IA 50401.
