Michael D. Anderson, 77, of Mason City, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2026, at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., at Major Erickson Funeral Home, with Pastor Jani Dahlin officiating. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service time on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Alzheimer’s/Dementia charity of your choice.
Michael Dean Anderson was born on January 23, 1949, in Mason City, to parents Carrol and Jeanette (Johnson) Anderson. Michael graduated from Mason High School and later went on to vocational school. Michael was united in marriage to Tracy Hedrick. To this union, the couple were blessed with four sons. They later divorced.
After schooling, Mike moved to Washington state in 1989, where he did a variety of jobs, including a welder, machinist, millwright, and a farmer. Most notably, Mike worked in Centralia, WA as a coalmine maintenance worker, for 16 years. In 1994, Mike and Tracy bought their farm. He raised Reg Rolled Hereford Cattle and bull service business, Hampshire Hog and Appaloosa Horses. After retirement, Mike moved to Mason City in 2009 after his divorce to take care of his mom. His health later deteriorated in November 2020.
For those who knew Mike, will forever remember him by his good work ethic, learned from his Swedish grandpa, Sigered. Mike always told his sons, “You don’t leave one job until you have another one to go to.” Mike was happiest when he was out working with his new John Deere Tractor. The day he bought his brand-new tractor; he was out digging holes in the pasture with the backhoe. He said he was learning how to use it but having fun!. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends that loved him dearly.
Michael is survived by his sons, Lonnie (Kelly) Anderson of Glenoma, WA, Brian Anderson of Tumwater, WA, Joey (Kristina) Anderson and Jamie Anderson, all of Tenino, WA; ex-wife, Tracy Hedrick Anderson, of Tenino; 7 grandchildren, Brittney (BJ) Brewer, Kenny (Alexa) Anderson, Sephora (Lisandro) Nuenz, Lincoln, Luca, Allie Rose, and Louchia Anderson; grandchildren, Jasmine, Jaman, Jada, Catlynn; 3 great grandchildren, Keenan, Cheyanne, Soleana, and Briar; 6 step great grandchildren; ex sister-in-law, Bonnie (Gary) Graham of Pacific, MO; ex brother-in-law, Richard Hedrick of Mason City, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
Michael was preceded in death by parents, Carrol (Andy) Anderson and Jeanette Anderson; brother, David Anderson; grandparents, Sigured and Hattie Johnson, and Dena Anderson.
