Mary Elizabeth Betty" Raymond

October 24, 1916 — February 19, 2008

Mary Elizabeth Betty Raymond, 91, of 905 1st Street SE, died Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.  Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Friday at the Church of Christ, 710 N. Kentucky with Pastor Alan Sheldon officiating.  Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.  At the request of Betty, the body will be cremated.  There will be no visitation.  Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa.  Betty was born October 24, 1916 on the Fankell farm North of Fertile to John and Daisy (Yokom) Fankell.  Bettys grandfather, William Fankell, came to Worth County in 1859 and was one of the first settlers in Iowa.  To William and Rachel Fankell were born 8 children on the Fankell farm and to their son John, 5 children were born.  Betty is the last surviving child.  She has lived her entire life in Fertile, Clear Lake, and Mason City.  Betty attended and graduated from Fertile High School.  She married Franklin Raymond March 28, 1936.  They farmed in the area.  To this union 3 children were born, Nancy of Clear Lake, Norma Jean of Mason City and Robert Eugene who died as an infant.  Betty worked as a dental assistant after the death of her husband.  She enjoyed quilting, knitting, gardening, and volunteered at RSVP.    Betty is survived by 2 daughters, Nancy Raymond of Clear Lake, Norma Jean Raymond of Mason City, 3 grandchildren, Kelly Walker of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Scott Walker of Reston, Virginia and Sasha Muth of Springfield, Virginia, 5 great grandchildren, Joshua Walker, Samantha Lindner, Alexander Lindner, Christopher Muth and Matthew Muth.   Betty is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Frank, son, Eugene, brothers, Harold, Everett, Robert and 1 sister, Janette Hammond.
