Marvyl M. Ransom

Marvyl May Ransom, 84, of Mason City, died on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

A memorial service will be held at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 4th Street SE, on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastors Sid Bohls and Pastor Jennifer Bohls officiating. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, with a luncheon at St. James Lutheran following.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 4:00-6:00 p.m., at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave.

Marvyl was born on May 1, 1934 in Mason City to Max and Henrietta (Kannenberg) Rohde. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1952. She was united in marriage to Ross Ransom on August 25, 1957 at St. James Lutheran Church. Mark and John were born into this union. Marvyl worked as a legal secretary at Hughes J. Bryant for 12 years until her retirement in 1989. After her retirement, she then became a homemaker. Marvyl was involved in Church Choir, Dodays Quilting, and Circle. Marvyl was also active in PTA, and Cub Scouts; she volunteered at Discovery Shop and Good Shepherd Health Center. Marvyl also helped start the North Iowa Diabetes Association. In her free time, Marvyl enjoyed knitting and making Bucilla Kits.

Marvyl is survived by her husband, Ross; children, Mark (Nedra) Ransom and John (Carol Sue) Ransom; grandchildren, Alex (Stephenie) Ransom and Aaron (Roberto Sanchez-Ransom) Ransom; two great grandchildren, Gavin and Madelyn; a step granddaughter, Jessica Mathers, 5 step great grandchildren, Hunter, Isaac, Savannah, Summer, and Samantha; and two sisters, Jean (Ray) Groth and Maxine Rose

Marvyl was preceded in death by her brother, Lynn Rohde; her parents; three brothers-in-law, Barney Rose, Harlan Johnson and Jim Ransom; and her sister-in-law, Barbara Ransom.

Memorials may be directed to the Marvyl Ransom Memorial Fund.
