Marvyl was born April 10, 1932, in Mason City, the daughter of George and Sarah Pearl (Shaner) Gettman. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1950 and was united in marriage to William Kasik. To this union, four children were born.
Marvyl was a homemaker for many years. She also worked at Houck Drug Store and as a unit clerk at Mercy Hospital in Mason City.
In 1976, Marvyl married Jack Buehner and they enjoyed 36 years together. Whether it was fishing or vacation trips with family, attending ISU football games, golf outings or having company over for dinner, they welcomed everyone and made sure they had a great time.
Marvyl enjoyed creating special times and making memories with her eight grandchildren, which they will cherish forever. Pool parties at the townhouse on Willowgreen Court were great fun and she always had cheese and crackers and fruit for a snack. Sleepovers consisted of making a craft or playing cards or board games and reading stories. You could be sure there would be Erica Kane sundaes for dessert. Grammy Marv and Grandpa Jack would take two or three grandkids at a time for overnight trips in the van to Backbone State Park or Cutty's Resort in Okoboji and a good time was had by all. When it was your birthday, you could bank on your favorite cake or pie being served.
After retiring to Daytona Beach, Florida in 1995, Marvyl decided to return to work for a few years and was the breakfast manager/hostess at The Hampton Inn hotel. Hospitality and making everyone feel special and welcome just came naturally to Marvyl and she and Jack hosted many friends and family at their lovely home in Florida.
In her 27 years in Florida, Marvyl had made many friends in her neighborhood. They were more than friends - they were her Florida family. She was a mother to them and a grandmother to their grandkids. She dearly loved them all. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Port Orange, Florida.
Marvyl moved back to Mason City in April 2023 and made her home at The Willows. She continued to make friends and baked cookies and pies to share with all her neighbors.
Marvyl is survived by her daughters Jo Kasik of Minneapolis, MN and Lori (Dave) Ricken of Clear Lake, IA; sons Bill (Margy) Kasik of Ankeny, IA and Kip (Kathy) Kasik of Davenport, FL; step-daughters Kris and Karin Buehner of Mason City, IA; grandchildren Robbi Kasik, Jeremy Kasik and Tony Kasik all of Twin Cities, MN, Bridget (Chad) Heuton of Grimes, IA, Kellie Gries of Ankeny, IA, Nicolette (Scott)Dobson of Mattawan, MI, Melissa (Ryan Larson) Searle of Grimes, IA and Jordan (Robert) McKee of St. Louis, MO; 11 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; one sister, Lynda McMannes of Mason City, IA and many nieces and nephews.
