Mardene "Marge" Berding, 80, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 5, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. A celebration of Marge's life will be held on Monday, October 12, 2026, at 4 p.m. at Major Erickson Funeral Home, located at 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Visitation will be held from 2 – 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Marge's memory.

Born in Rockwell, Iowa, on May 24, 1946, Marge was the daughter of John and Laura Mulenbruch. Marge graduated from Rockwell-Swaledale High School in 1964, setting the stage for a life filled with warmth and generosity. Marge began her career as a waitress at Gretchen's before her and Benny purchased the Coffee Cup in Mason City, which she managed for many years. Later her and Benny then purchased The Crossroads Bar/Cafe in Manly, which they owned for many years. She then continued to work as a buyer for Damon's clothing and dedicated over two decades to Younkers until her retirement.

Marge had an extraordinary talent for making everyone feel at home, a gift she shared with her family and friends at countless gatherings on the acreage. She enjoyed trips to Sturges with Johnny, family and friends. Marge's hospitality was unmatched, and she was particularly famed for offering her grandchildren a special treat—a delicious malt shake—every time they visited. Her love for animals was evident in the way she cared for her cats and the various creatures that lived around her home. Family was the cornerstone of Marge's life.

She is survived by her significant other, Johnny Berding; her children, Brenda (Dale) Schmidtke, John (Kristi) Berding, Mike (Amanda) Berding, Danny (Elissa) Berding, and Angie (Brandon) Stark. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Sara (Dustin) Berding, Samantha (Ray) Schmidtke, Jace (Kylie) Berding, Chase, Reese, Sidney, Charlie, Evelyn, Wyatt, and Aubrey; and her great-grandchild, Dani Berding. Her faithful companion, "Sparky," was always by her side, providing joy and comfort.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Laura Mulenbruch. Siblings Wayne Mulenbruch, Mervin Mulenbruch, Laurel Mulenbruch, Irene Dannen, Grandson Colby Schmidtke, and many other family members.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at St. Croix for their compassionate care during Marge's stay at the IOOF Home, with special thanks to Keanna LaSalle for her kindness and attention. Marge Berding will be remembered for her warmth, her laughter, and the unwavering love she gave to those around her. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and cherished memories that will forever endure in the hearts of all who knew her.
