Lyle C. Quam, 93, of Mason City, Iowa passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2026, and is now in the arms of God. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026 at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Pastor Beverly Butler officiating. Interment will follow the service at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

Lyle Carroll Quam was born in South Dakota to Clayton and Tilla (Erickson) Quam on December 12, 1932. He was the fourth of 10 children. The family soon moved to North Iowa, where he was raised.

Lyle married the love of his life, Margaret Bailey, on January 31, 1953, and several days later he was called into the Army, where he was deployed to South Korea until 1955. While he was in Korea, his son Timothy was born. Tim was followed by 5 more children.

Lyle and Margaret raised their family in Mason City in a house purchased in 1961. There they raised their six children.

Lyle worked several jobs before he landed a job at Northwestern States Portland Cement Company, where he worked for 38 years until his retirement at the end of 1989.

Lyle was a jack of all trades from carpentry and welding to car repair and scroll saw work. He converted a 1955 school bus into a camper that slept 8, and took the family on summer vacations to northeastern Iowa, western Iowa, southern Minnesota, and South Dakota. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

His sister, Betty, said that everyone should have a brother like Lyle. He helped where needed and was quite a joker.

He was a Boy Scout assistant leader for his sons.

Lyle was a wonderful husband and father.

Lyle was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, American Legion, and the VFW.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 69 years, Margaret Quam; his sisters, LeVound Bailey, Betty Squier, Caroline King, and Annette Duray; his brothers, Ivan and John; his daughter-in-law, Lou Hoffman, and son-in-law, Jamie Zweydoff.

Lyle is survived by his brothers, Robert and Clayton; his sister, Donna Cooper; his children, Timothy (Barb) Quam, Bruce (Mona) Quam, Cheryl (Randy) Brenton, Martin Quam, Blake (Karla) Quam, and Sarah Zweydoff; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Blessed be the memory of Lyle.
