Mason City

Lyle Ervin Bishop, 90, of Mason City, passed away Monday, August 25, 2025, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City. No formal services will be held at this time. Burial will be held in Oakhill Cemetery in Estherville at a later date.

Lyle was born in Trimont, MN to Ervin and Elsie (Fenrich) Bishop. He grew up on the Idle Not Farm north of Trimont with his siblings Kenneth, Lola, Beulah and Darvin.

Lyle enlisted in the Navy in 1955 and served for 2 years. During this time, he spent many days in the Pacific and Islands of Greece. He married Lea Ann Marriott on September 6, 1959. They lived in Butterfield, MN; Sibley, IA; Royal, IA; Belmond, IA; Fairmont, MN; and Mason City, IA.

Lyle’s career was with Cargill, managing grain elevators, which led to several relocations. He later worked at the Carroll elevator. Lyle enjoyed his friendships with many of the local farmers that came to the elevator for morning coffee.

Lyle & Lea spent many winters in Arizona as snowbirds. Lyle enjoyed walking to get filtered water and going to flea markets looking for BB guns. While in Arizona, they enjoyed visiting many Minnesota and Iowa friends.

Lyle enjoyed horse shows with Jeanette when she was in high school, and water skiing with Heather when she was in high school. He liked watching his old cowboy movies in the afternoons during his later years.

He was always someone who helped the neighbors and checked in on them. He especially loved seeing his grandkids and receiving pictures and videos of their activities.

He is survived by his wife, Lea Ann; daughters Heather (Jamie) Daugaard and Jeanette (Mark) Messer; grandchildren Alese (Will) Overly and children Micah, Luke, and Hannah; Jenny Messer; Chris (Courtney) Messer and son Grayson; Caden Daugaard; and Ryken Daugaard.

His presence in the family will be deeply missed.
