Lon E. Peterson, 83, of Rockwell, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at Mayo Clinic Hospital – Methodist Campus. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 2, 2026, 11 a.m., at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 502 2nd St S, Rockwell, with Pastor Jason Grunklee officiating. Interment will be held in Rockwell Cemetery. A visitation for Lon will be held one hour prior to the service time on Monday. Memorials may be directed to the family of Lon Peterson.
Lon was born February 11, 1943, to Elmer and Myrtle (Larson) Peterson. He was welcomed by older brothers Wesley, Merle, and Roger and sisters Della, Deloris, and Rowena. He graduated from Rockwell High School in 1961.
He married Lucille Vosburgh and they welcomed three children; Dena, Gary, and Sandy. Although this union ultimately ended, they continued to have an amicable relationship throughout the years. He later met the ultimate love of his life, Kendra Kreider. They were married on July 18, 1971. They welcomed daughter, Jessica, in 1973.
Lon worked as a truck driver until retirement in 2008. This allowed Lon and Kendra the opportunity for several trips, including Costa Rica, Alaska, and their favorite, Hawaii. Lon did everything together with Kendra. There were annual fishing trips, and anytime a grandchild had games or events, they were right there cheering together. They enjoyed spending Saturday evenings at the Rockwell American Legion, where they were known by their celebrity name “Londra”.
Lon is survived by daughters Dena Peterson of Sheffield and Jessica (Jeff) Tierney of Mason City; grandsons Ryan (Katie) Gossweiler of Madrid, Xander Tierney of Mason City, and Drew Tierney of Mason City; granddaughter Lindsay Tank; great-granddaughters Abby Tank and Rylee Tank; great-grandsons Bentley Gossweiler and Colt Gossweiler; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Myrtle; his wife, Kendra; brothers Wesley, Merle, and Roger; sisters Della, Deloris, and Rowena; and his son, Gary.
