Judith (Judy) S. Evans, 80, of Mason City passed away on April 5, 2023, at the Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, FL. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family of Judith Evans.

Judy was born on November 2, 1942, in Cedar Rapids, IA, the second daughter of Melvin and Alice (Adams) Stothfang. She resided with her family in Libertyville, IL until attending college. Judy graduated from Libertyville-Fremont High School in 1960, from the University of Iowa in 1965 with a degree in Liberal Arts-Medical Technology; internship at Northwestern Hospital in Chicago; and Central Michigan University with a Masters degree in Healthcare Administration.

Judy married Thomas L. Castle on September 5, 1965, in Oshkosh, WI. To this union, two children were born: Jonathan Paul and Tammi Jean. Judy and Tom divorced in 1980. Judy married Robert A. Evans on November 23, 1990.

Judy’s career was spent in health care. She worked as a Medical Technologist in Des Moines, Clinton, and Mason City. While working in the laboratory at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, Judy obtained her Masters Degree in Hospital Administration and went on to serve as Vice President of Support Services and Vice President of Professional Services at Mercy. Judy also held the position of Director of Continuous Quality Improvement and Director of Credentialing at Mercy Medical Center before retirement in 2006. Judy was employed at Mercy Medical Center for over 33 years.

Judy enjoyed spending time with family and friends and especially enjoyed being Grandma. She and Bob always made an effort to have each of the grandchildren come and spend time together during the summer, visiting places of interest to each of the kids. Some of her interests included motor home travel with Bob, genealogy, photography, counted cross stitch, and computer work. She and Bob spent many years wintering in Florida. She loved learning about travel and nature-especially birds and flowers.

Judy was very active at state and national levels for Medical Technology-holding several offices. Judy served on the boards of Mason City Chamber of Commerce & Francis Lauer Youth Services. She spent a great deal of volunteer time at her church, First United Methodist, serving as chair of several committees and as a Trustee, as well as singing in the Chancel Choir. In Florida, she served on the Board of the Great Outdoors Community Church as Chair of Finance. Judy also volunteered at Mercy Medical Center following retirement.
