Jon D. Tisor

Jon Douglas Tisor, 81, of Thornton, passed away Friday, June 27, 2025, at Unity Point Health- Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo with his daughter Kristen by his side. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 12 p.m. at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City. A visitation will be held an hour prior. Inurnment will be held at a later date. A luncheon will be held at the Pleasant Valley Golf Course in Thornton immediately following the service. Memorials may be directed towards the family for later designation.

Jon was born in Mason City, Iowa on July 14, 1943, to Leo and Irene (Angelides) Tisor. He attended grade school at Grant and Roosevelt, graduating from Mason City High School- class of 1961. Following graduation, Jon attended Mason City Junior College. Upon graduation, Jon was employed at Greene Limestone and Asphalt in Greene, Iowa. In 1966 Jon began a 38-year career with the Iowa Department of Transportation, where he retired in August 2004.

On September 26, 1969, Jon was united in marriage to Karen Marie Colson at the Wayside Chapel- First United Methodist Church in Mason City. To this union a daughter, Kristen Michelle was born.

In 1984 Jon and Karen became promoters at the I-35 speedway in Mason City. Jon’s love of racing fueled his passion for the sport and his commitment to the racing community. In retirement Jon and Karen drove thousands of miles going to go kart and modified races, dance recitals, spending time with their family, and enjoying their friends at the golf course.

Jon remained a constant figure at the Pleasant Valley Golf Course in Thornton, serving on the board for over 20 years- he loved golf!

Jon is survived by his wife Karen, his beloved bride of 56 years, daughter Kristen and her husband Bruce, two of Jons greatest treasures, his grandchildren, Garett Jon and Olivia and his brother Tom (Luci) Tisor.

He is preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, sister Sharon Peterson, and a brother, Larry Tisor.
