JoAnn I. McCallum

JoAnn I. McCallum, 91, of Nora Springs, died on June 12, 2023, at the Nora Springs Care Center. A private graveside service will be held in the South Shell Rock Cemetery.

JoAnn Irene McCallum was born in Arkansas City, KS, on October 14, 1931, to parents William and Vida (Hill) Thomas. JoAnn graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1949. She attended junior college for one year. Her father owned a mattress factory and spent some time working for where she did a lot of sewing. She then began working as a telephone operator with Southwest Bell and later Northwest Bell and did so for 32 years until her retirement.

 Before her time the telephone company she was united in marriage to John McCallum on January 13, 1951, in San Diego. John was in the military, and she followed him to Korea where he was stationed.

JoAnn enjoyed playing golf, bowling and traveling to Grand Marias, MN every September to visit friends. Her and John were members of the First Methodist Church in Northwood and the Order of the Eastern Star which they were both very proud of.  

JoAnn is survived by her husband, John; brother Doug (Debra) Thomas; sister, Judy Thomas; several nieces and nephews; dear friends, Sarah (Lane) Wacholz and Tom (Shelly) McHenry.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters.
