Jerry Lavern Siefken was born on July 8, 1942, to John and Wava (Merriss) Siefken in Charles City, Iowa, one of five children. He attended Rockford High School, and would go on to attend numerous technical classes after graduating. Growing up on the family farm, Jerry would tag along when his father worked in the shop, and discovered an aptitude for mechanical work from a young age. He would carry this great skill with him into adulthood, and spent the vast majority of his working life as a mechanic and repairman at various dealerships including Michaelson’s, IMT, and his own repair shop, Jerry’s Service. Jerry could—and did—fix anything and everything, from cars to appliances, lawnmowers to wind turbine motors, and just about everything in between. To call a repairman at the Siefken house was unheard of: Jerry had it covered.

In the summer of 1963, Jerry met Loni Horstman through mutual friends. Two years later, the pair was married, and remained inseparable for the next 60 years. The two travelled across the world, visiting all 50 states in their camper and flying overseas to visit over 30 countries. Spain, Italy, and Hawaii were some of Jerry’s favorites, but the time they spent in Alaska was especially unforgettable for him.

When not adventuring, Jerry enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, whether riding his bike with Loni or his game nights with friends in town. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; they never failed to bring a smile to his face, and vice versa. On Christmas Eve, he could be found in the kitchen, making divinity sweets alongside the kids.

Jerry was a loving husband, a nurturing father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and a loyal friend. His quick wit, clever hands, and warm companionship will be deeply missed.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 60 years, Loni Siefken; his sons, Lane (Denise) Siefken and Lance (Dawn) Siefken; grandchildren, Zachary (Holly) Siefken, Cody (Krista) Siefken, Megan (Aaron) Ebbers, and Kari (Chris) Cary; great-grandchildren, Luka, Colton, and Karly; two sisters, and two brothers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Wava Siefken, and his sister, Sandy Losee.
