Jerry Lowell Horstman was born on December 8, 1937, in Worthington, Minnesota to parents Dorward and Verna (Koepsell) Horstman. Jerry grew up in Worthington and graduated from Worthington High School. He then served in the United States Navy for 11 years. On June 4,1961 he was united in marriage to Julia Anna Robinson. The couple had three children: Jason, Joey, and Jill. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he returned to Minnesota and worked for Central Telephone Company in Fairmont, where he and Julia ran Park Street Grocery. He went on to work for Northern Telecom in Farmington, MN until his retirement and later enjoyed delivering for the Farmington Bakery. In 2003 Jerry’s beloved wife, Julia passed away. In such a loss he was blessed to find his spark again as he reconnected with Carol Johnson at his 55th high school class reunion. On August 4, 2012, the two were united in marriage and Jerry moved to Clear Lake, Iowa. Jerry and Carol spent the last ten years wintering in Arizona and sharing wine with friends from their lakeside Clear Lake home.
Jerry was known for his generosity, his deep faith, and his love of both laughter and chocolate. While Jerry enjoyed golf, table tennis, woodworking, and yelling at the Vikings, his greatest joy was his family. A loving and affectionate father, grandfather and great grandfather, he could always be found cheering on his grandkids at whatever sporting event they were in. He died much like he lived, peacefully surrounded by his family, knowing he was loved.
