Jerry Koerber, 90, of Mason City, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in his home Sunday, June 1, 2025. A memorial service will be held Monday, June 9, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N Pennsylvania Ave., with Pastor Jane Harris officiating. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 3-5 pm at the funeral home. Inurnment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed towards the family of Jerry Koerber.
Jerry was born June 3, 1934, in Mason City, IA, to Albert & Jeane Koerber. Jerry graduated from Mason City High School in 1952, where he met the love of his life, Mary Mathews. Together they raised three children. He served in the Army as a medic and was stationed in Alaska.
Jerry started a life long career in law enforcement with the Cerro Gordo County Sheriffs, Investigative Division. During his career he earned an A.A. degree from NIACC, B.A. degree Law Enforcement from Mankato State University, and Master of Public Administration from ISU, Ames, Iowa. Jerry served as Chief of Police in Oelwein, Iowa and Fort Madison, Iowa. He then did Private Investigative work and background checks for the CIA.
He loved to help and serve the people. Jerry’s free time was spent traveling the USA in many new cars, motorcycles, and flying several different airplanes. He held interests in Iowa Wrestling, Golfing, metal detecting, antique collecting, and avid reader of war or investigative novels.
He is survived by his wife, Mary of 72 years, sons Mark (Marsha) and Jay (Kaylene) Koerber and, daughter, Penny Koerber. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Morgan, Shania (Jake) and Caden. Two great grandchildren: Jayden and Brynlee
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, brother Al, sister Betty, and grandson Ryan.
