Jerry E. Brown, 79, of Mason City, passed away unexpectedly Friday, May 9, 2025, at his home. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Ave., with Pastor Jim Bringman officiating. Inurnment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service time on Wednesday. Memorials may be directed to the family of Jerry Brown.
Jerry Edgar Brown was born on January 19, 1946, in Mason City, to parents Marshall and Velma (Pierce) Brown. Growing up, Jerry attended Mason City Schools and later received his AA from NIACC. In September of 1964, Jerry enlisted in the United States Air Force and served during the Vietnam War. Jerry was honorably discharged in August of 1968, obtaining the rank of Sergeant.
On September 20, 1969, Jerry was united in marriage to Deborah L. Schultz, in Mason City. The couple were blessed with 51 years together until Deb’s passing in 2021.
In his free time, Jerry loved fishing, camping and being outdoors. He was an avid sports fan; especially hockey. Jerry and Deb were a host family for many years for the players on the North Iowa Huskies. He also enjoyed woodworking and traveling. Most importantly, Jerry loved his family and spending time with his daughter, Shawn, and his grandchildren. Jerry had seven grandchildren of his own, but was known as Grandpa Jerry to many. Jerry will be deeply missed by his family and friends, and those who knew him and loved him.
Jerry is survived by his daughter, Shawn (Jeff) Julson; grandchildren, Amber (Corey) Foland, Ranae (Patrick) Benike, Alex (Michelle) Brown, Matthew Julson, Kyle (Kayla) Pals, Erica (Isaac) Baker, and Michelle Julson; seventeen great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter, brother, Jack Brown; and sister, Donna (Jerry) Braughton.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Deborah Brown; parents, Marshall and Velma; son, Marshall Brown; sisters, Marcia (Floyd “Bud”) Butcher and Patricia (Earl) Wood; and sister-in-law, Virginia Brown.
