Mason City

Jean C. Johnson, 105, of Mason City, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Good Shepherd Health Center. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N Pennsylvania Ave. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service time. Burial will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials can be directed to the First United Methodist Church.

Jean Carol born July 16, 1920 to James and Mildred Ransom. Went to country school and then graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1938. Graduated from Hamilton College in 1940. Worked 6 ½ years at First National Bank. Was married December 1,1945 to Harlan M. Johnson. Raised four children: Curtis L., Barry C., Douglas G., and Cathy Jo.

In 1963, helped organize the first city 4-H club and was a leader for 17 ½ years. In l965 went to work at Kaynay Graphics and Metalcraft. Retired in l982. Enjoyed her 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was always active in 4-H and First Methodist Church. Volunteered for over 13 years at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake, IA.

Had a garden and canned food, crocheted and knitted many items. Bakes a lot of cakes, pies, cookies, and rolls.

Jean is survived by her children, Barry (Katherine) Johnson, Doug Johnson, and Cathy (Jim) Clark. Also survived by her seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren; brother, Ross Ransom and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harlan Johnson; oldest son, Curt Johnson; parents James and Mildred Ransom and brother James Ransom.
