Janice K. Schmidtke

August 26, 1962 — September 16, 2025

Mason City

Janice Kay Schmidtke (Stevenson), age 63, of Mason City, passed away at her home on September 16, 2025. Per Janice’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family of Janice Schmidtke.

Janice Kay was born on August 26, 1962, in Osage, to parents Ralph and Gloria (Bublitz) Stevenson. Janice graduated from Cresco High School in 1979.

Over the years, Janice was employed at Kraft Services, Long John Silvers, Hardee’s, HyVee for over 10 years, and most recently, Dollar Tree, which she absolutely loved; especially her coworkers!

To Janice, her daughters were her pride and joy. She was united in marriage to Thomas Charles Schmidtke on October 25, 1986, and the couple were blessed with Summer on April 4, 1987 and Faith on June 19, 1996.

In her free time, Janice was a vocalist and played tambourine in her band, Who Cares. Before her health decline, she loved to cook, sing, crafts, spend time with her children, and holidays. She especially loved Halloween and scary movies. To her family, Janice will be forever remembered by love of listening to Fleetwood Mac, hearts, and all different kinds of knick-knacks. Janice’s soul was one of a kind; and she will be dearly missed by her family and friends who loved her deeply.

Janice is survived by her daughters, Summer Sullivan and Faith Schmidtke; her father, Ralph Stevenson; and her sisters, Jo, Connie, Val, and their partners.

Janice was preceded in death by her mother, Gloria Stevenson; her grandparents, Harvey and Irene Bublitz, and Marie and Gerald Stevenson; sister, Dawn Gansen; and uncle, Harley Bublitz.

Over the past three years, Janice’s health declined significantly, but she’s now free. Welcomed with open arms, free from the ailments that pained her.

To all her “ladies” at the Manor- she spoke very highly of you all and loved spending time with you. Rest in peace, Janice.
