Janice "Jan" Elaine Conway, 84, passed away on July 2,2026 at Manly Specialty Care in Manly, Iowa under the care of St Croix Hospice.
Janice Elaine Conway was born October 18th, 1941 in Nora Springs, Iowa, the daughter of the late Rex and Beatrice (Brazel) Brockett. She had one brother, John Brockett.
Jan attended many different grade schools but ultimately graduated from Mason City High School in 1959, she then attended Sioux Falls College for her teaching degree, graduating with her B.S. in Elementary Education in 1963. After graduating, she went on to teach first grade at West Harrison Elementary School in Onawa, Iowa.
While teaching in Onawa, Janice met Laurence Conway, they were married on December 31, 1966 in Onawa, Iowa. Together they had two children, Tami (Conway) McGinnis and James Conway.
Janice and Larry later divorced in March of 1970, but maintained a caring relationship, it was around this time Janice had moved back to Mason City and started working for the Area Education Agency, she stayed there for a few years before discovering her true calling working at Gerard (now Four Oaks). She had found a great joy in working with the children there no matter how hard it was at times, and she stayed at Gerard until her retirement.
Jan was a member of First Baptist Church in Mason City, Iowa for 81 years. She always had stories to tell about the memories teaching Sunday school with her mother. When her grandchildren were in elementary school, Jan would take them to Possibility Kids, the church's children's bible study was held on Wednesday evenings. During this time she would attend the adult bible study session.
In her later years, Jan found great joy in caring for those around her, including her mother, children and grandchildren. She always had stories to tell and memories to share. She was a living history book, always knowing the answers to questions about the family's past. Jan was an avid reader and writer. She wrote books for both of her granddaughters with their full lineage from their father's side of the family, making sure they knew where their family had originated. Jan took great joy in the beauty of God's creation. She loved being in nature and would often travel "up north" with her daughter or go on scenic drives through the countryside.
Janice is preceded in death by her parents, Rex Brockett and Beatrice (Brazel) Brockett; and her daughter, Tamarah (Conway) McGinnis.
Janice is survived by her son, James (Tasha) Conway; brother, John (Karen) Brockett; granddaughters, Mollie Conway and Mackenzy Conway, and a great amount of extended family members.
