James Wardlaw

Jim Wardlaw passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Good Shepherd Health Center, Mason City, IA. Per Jim's wishes, cremation has taken place, and no services will be held at this time. Memorials may be directed to the family of Jim Wardlaw.

 He was born in Oconee County, South Carolina to Clifford Wardlaw and Amanda (Cobb) Wardlaw. Jim grew up in South Carolina, spending considerable time along with his siblings, in the care of his Uncle Joe and Aunt Hattie.

At 17 he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He spent 21 years in the Marines and was a Vietnam War veteran retiring in 1974. He met and married Rebecca (Becky) Roque in 1958 in Quantico Virginia. Together they raised 4 children Pauline (Doug) Janssen, Clifford, Robert (Leigh Ann) and John (Erica). Through Jim’s service they enjoyed many locations for duty with Pauline being born in Virginia, Cliff in Colorado, Robert and John born in Panama. Jim eventually retired from military service while stationed in Waterloo, and he and Becky raised their family in Waverly.

After retiring from the Marines Jim enrolled in Hawkeye Technical College and studied Heating and Air Conditioning. He became an appliance repair technician working at Landmark Appliance before opening his own business, Cedar Falls Appliance Center. Jim sold this business and retired again and he and Becky enjoyed traveling, golf and spending time with children and grandchildren.

Jim was a lifelong sports fan and took great pleasure in rooting for Clemson University and the Detroit Tigers. Jim loved to golf and taking walks with Becky. His favorite foursome was with his sons, and he taught his grandchildren to golf as well.

He was preceded in death by his wife Becky, sons Clifford and John. The family wishes to thank the staff at Good Shepherd, St. Croix Hospice and the Mason City VA Clinic for their invaluable care, support, and comfort during Dad’s final days. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Ashley and dedicated staff Cornerstone Assisted Living for their exceptional care and friendship.
