James Loy Pike

July 29, 1955 — October 1, 2019

James ‘Jim’ Pike, 64, of Mason City, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at MercyOne Medical Center-North Iowa.

Memorial services will be held at 11 AM Monday, October 7, 2019 at the Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Dan Gerrietts officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 6, 2019 from 4 until 6 PM at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Ave.

Jim was born on July 29, 1955 to Loy and Pat (Prohaski) Pike in Mason City, Iowa. He was the only boy, growing up with three sisters, Lois, Deb, and Diana.

In 1972, Jim met the love of his life, his soulmate, Cindy Hjelle. Jim and Cindy were married right after she graduated high school. On October 3, they would have celebrated their 44th Wedding Anniversary. Jim and Cindy were blessed with two wonderful sons, Joshua and Gabriel, and two grandsons, Orion and Westley.

After graduation, Jim went to NIACC for a year, and then worked at Iowa Beef before Jim and Cindy formed their own business J & C Window Washing.

Jim was full of love and faith. His greatest love was for his family, always putting Cindy and the boys first in his life. That loved overflowed to extended family members and friends. The door to Jim and Cindy’s home was always open to everyone. There was nothing that made Jim happier than when everyone was gathered together having good times and making memories.

We can’t forget his love for turkey hunting. Every spring Jim and his buddies would pack up and head to his cabin for a week of turkey hunting and memory making. When cancer took his hand, it didn’t stop him from hunting. He continued until he was no longer able to travel to the cabin.

And his faith- Jim Pike’s faith and love for Jesus carried his family and friends on “Jim’s Journey” for the past five years. He and Cindy read the Bible and prayed together daily. He encouraged family and friends to pray and believe. When the road traveled was bumpy, we prayed for strength. When we received good news and healing we sang praises to God; Jim Pike was our fearless leader.

Jim is survived by his wife, Cindy; sons, Joshua (Karon) and Gabe (Amy); Josh’s sons, Orion and Westley; sisters, Lois Awe (Allen), Deb Pike Walkner, and Diana Padilla (Guero); brothers-in-law, Mike Hjelle (Jackie) and Peter Hjelle (RaNae); a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, and a great great niece and a great great nephew.

Jim was greeted in heaven by his parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Oscar and Joanne Hjelle; niece, Darcie Nettifee Vasquez; maternal and paternal grandparents, and many uncles and aunts.
