Helen L. Thornblade

Helen L. Thornblade, 84, of 633 S. Rhode Island, died Monday (May 17, 2004) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Rev. Bill Poland officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, and continue at the church one hour before services Friday. Eastern Star services will be held 7:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Helen L. Thornblade Memorial Fund. Helen was born December 25, 1919 in Mason City the daughter of Emory and Ruby (Bossom) Eveland. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1938. Helen married Ted Thornblade July 30, 1938 in Northwood. Helen worked as a cashier at Piggly Wiggly and later at Baker Floral. She volunteered in the gift shop at North Iowa Mercy Medical Center, west campus. Helen loved taking care of her home and spending time in her yard. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and Eastern Star. Helen is survived by her children, Suzanne Hagemeier of Burlington, Mary Jo Nelson and husband Jerald of Vacaville, CA, Jane Alverez of Mason City, Nancy Johnson and husband Kurt of Edmonds, WA, Sally Lau and husband Graydon of Britt, Ronald Thornblade and wife Betty of Mason City, Barbara Rasmussen of Parker, CO, Timothy Thornblade of Okinawa Japan; daughter-in-law, Arlene Thornblade of Mason City; 25 grandchildren; many great grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ted; sons, Thomas and Ted; 3 brothers and 1 sister.
