Glen was born July 6, 1939 in Earlham, Iowa to parents Hugh and Clarice (Meyers) Ramsey. Glen was proud of his middle name and often mentioned his affection for his “cousin” Marylyn (Monroe). Glen graduated from Earlham High School in 1957 and was a 4 year letter winner in football for the Earlham Cardinals. He attended Northwest Missouri State (Maryville, MO) and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Ag-Business in 1961. He was a founding member of the fraternity Phi Lambda Chi.

Glen met Susie Binns the summer after her Junior year at DeSoto High School in 1959. Susie was only allowed to date 1 time per week and after their third date Glen asked Susie if she would marry him. They were married on June 4, 1961 and recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary with their children.

Glen and Susie settled in Earlham and he began his career in insurance with National Travelers Life and Farm Bureau. Soon he switched into agriculture and became involved in Grain Cooperative management through Land-O-Lakes. As he was promoted to larger co-ops, he moved his family to Allen, NE, Madison, NE, Albion, NE, and finally back to Iowa living in Coon Rapids, Bayard, Plymouth, Cedar Falls and ending up in rural Ankeny.

Glen was a passionate sports enthusiast and loved to recall to anyone who would listen to the stories of his high school football days. Each hit got a little bit harder and each run with the football got a little bit longer. He and Susie were dedicated parents to watching their children play sports and other extra-curricular activities and almost never missed a game or performance. Glen also liked to cheer for the Iowa State University Cyclones and the Green Bay Packers.
One of Glen’s hobbies was baking and he learned to bake a Dutch Apple Pie just like mother Clarice. His crust was hand-made and the pie usually ended up in the hands of family, friends or a fundraising event.

Glen has been very involved with his church in each community that he has lived in and often provided leadership through teaching and participation in the various church endeavors. It was important to him that everyone feel welcomed and he volunteered as a greeter nearly every Sunday to shake hands. Glen joined the United Methodist Church in Mason City in 2000. He has been involved in missions, membership and adult Sunday school since joining.

Glen is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Susan (Susie) Binns Ramsey, his sons James Hugh Ramsey (Donna Larson) of Ankeny, Donald Curtis Ramsey (Holly) of Puyallup, WA, grandchildren Zachery James Ramsey (Randi), of Urbandale, Madison Mariah Ramsey of Ames, Nathan Daniel Ramsey of Puyallup, WA and Thomas Henry Ramsey, Puyallup, WA. Finally, Glen welcomed his great-grand daughter Lilith Marie Ramsey, daughter of Zachery and Randi, into the world on June 19, 2017. Glen is preceded in death by his father Hugh Ramsey, mother Clarice Ramsey, and sister Mary-Ann (Ramsey) Harms.
