Liz was born January 19, 1934, the daughter of Antonius and Eleanora (Christianson) Jensen in Mason City, IA. She attended Mason City Community Schools and graduated from Mason City High School in the class of 1952. On September 20, 1951, Elizabeth married Jackie "Jack" Helgren in Mason City, IA, and they had two sons.
Liz managed the books and worked alongside Jack and John in owning and operating North Iowa Tire and House of Sports. Liz had an adventurous side and enjoyed roller skating, square dancing, lake boating, water skiing and snowmobiling with family and friends. Jack and Liz spent 23 plus years enjoying their cabin in Brainard, MN, often flying there with Jack piloting their Cessna plane. Thanksgiving and Christmas were very special to her. In her later years, Liz cherished family outings at the Prime N Wine, and taking her car out for some exercise. Liz was an active Grandma, attending Grandkid’s ball games over the years and never missed listening to grandson Joel on the radio every Saturday morning. After Jack passed away in May of 2009, Liz visited Denmark, the birth place of her parents.
Those thankful for having shared in Liz's life include her sons, Michael (Kristine Lin) Helgren, John (Joyce Diedrich) Helgren; her grandchildren, Joel Helgren, Taylor (Allie) Helgren, Drew (Kelly Doyle) Helgren and Ethan Lin; her great grandchildren, Vivienne and Remy Helgren; her nieces, Cheryl Cassels, Heidi Morgan, Mary Jo Earwicker; her nephew, Tom Mittlestadt; her former daughters in law, Kathleen Helgren, Patricia Taylor; and a sister in law, Beverly Mittlestadt.
