Douglas H. Lee, 97, of Mason City, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2026, at the Good Shepherd Health Center surrounded by his loving family. A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 6, 2026, at 1 p.m., at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania, with Rev. Paul Boostrom officiating. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Mason City Veterans Association. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service time on Monday. Memorials may be directed to St. Croix Hospice, or an organization of your choice.
Douglas Herbert Lee was born on December 13, 1928, in Mason City, Iowa, to parents, Harris and Louise (Lysne) Lee. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1947 where he was active in baseball, football, and basketball.
After high school, he entered into the U.S. Army, and he served in the Korean Conflict until January 1953.
Doug was united in marriage to Phyllis Edgington on December 27, 1953, and had three daughters: Lana, Karen, and Joni.
He was employed in construction and bowling businesses, including Classic Bowling Supply in Mason City for 33 years.
Doug introduced slow pitch softball to Mason City and was inducted into the River City Softball Hall of Fame and the State of Iowa Softball Hall of Fame. He was also inducted into the Mason City Bowling Hall of Fame.
Doug was an active member of First Christian Church, where he was a deacon. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, Moose Lodge, and American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Lee; and niece, Cindy Lee. Doug is survived by his wife, Phyllis; three daughters, Lana (Rick) Waggoner, Karen (Jim) Dlouhy, and Joni (Scott) Wulfekuhler; seven grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren.
