Mason City

Dora Elizabeth Mahn, 91, of Mason City, IA formerly of Sheffield, IA, passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at the Franklin General Hospital, Hampton, IA.  Memorial services will be held Friday January 5, 2024, at 10:30 AM at the Major Erickson Funeral Home.  Inurnment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.

Dora Elizabeth Mahn, the daughter of Lloyd and Cecil (Schear) Bare, was born on March 8, 1932, in the Hampton Hospital. She attended and graduated from Chapin Consolidated School in 1949. She attended Hamilton Business College and was employed by Iowa Hardware Mutual Insurance. On March 12, 1950, she married Dale Mahn at the Little Brown Church near Nashua. They farmed for over forty years in the Sheffield area and enjoyed working together. To this union, a daughter Patricia, and son, Gary, were born. They retired in 1995, moving to Mason City.

Dora was a member of the Sheffield United Methodist Church for many years treasuring the faith and fellowship with its members. Upon moving to Mason City, she transferred to Wesley United Methodist Church and was active in the UMH and the Golden Age Groups until Dale’s illness required her care.

She is survived by one daughter, Patricia (Tim) Rodemeyer of Hampton; one son, Gary (Mary Ellen Stone) of Shoreline, WA; three granddaughters, Sara (Ben) Thomas of Greene, Melissa (Thai) Nguyen of Hinsdale, IL and Courtney (Nolan) Craighton of Hampton; seven great granddaughters, Kayla and Kara Welsher, Sophia Wilken, Sydney, Samantha, and Sloane Nguyen, Cora Craighton and a great grandson, Henry Craighton; and many loving extended family of nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Dale of 65 years; her parents, one brother, Donald; two sisters, Betty Cook and Maxine Kittleson.

The family would like to thank A Helping Hand, Vern Steidl, and Dora’s care team for their loving care and concern.
