Donna Jean Jones, 88, of Mason City, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at the Good Shepherd Health Center.
Donna was born May 18, 1937 at Story Hospital in Mason City, IA to James G. and Goldie F. {Bailey) Boyd. She attended Mason City Schools, and graduated from Mason City High School in 1955.
She was united in marriage to Denzil W. Jones (Sheffield, IA) at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA on December 5th 1959. They welcomed two sons to their union: David in 1960 and Dallas in 1965.
Donna spent most of her career caring for others as a CNA and CMA in local healthcare facilities. These included the Cerro Gordo County Care Facility from 1975-82, Good Shepherd 1982-83, and Heritage Care Center from 1990 until her retirement in 1999.
Donna was a devout Christian and member of the Free Methodist Church. There was always a Bible and prayer cards by her side to help her with life’s challenges and keep her faith strong.
Donna loved reading, cooking, and the beautiful handy-work of Denzil’s green thumb. There was always a pot of coffee on and Donna would feed whoever walked through the door. Countless hours were spent at the kitchen table among family and friends. Most of all Donna loved spending time with her grandchildren and all the joy they brought into her life. Their artwork adorned the home and whether it was games, projects, reading to them, or chasing them around the yard, she couldn’t get enough.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Goldie; husband, Denzil Wayne Jones on July 4th 2006; her sons, Dallas Gene Jones in 2022 and David Eugene Jones in 2023; her brother Glenn E. Boyd (Woodbury, MN), and two nephews Scot Wyborny and Stephen Boyd.
Those left to cherish her memory and legacy of love include her daughter-in-law, Ann, wife of her late son, Dallas; six grandchildren: Katie (Justin) Kahler, Jake (Trish) Jones, Ian (Taylor) Jones, Alex (Sarah) Jones, Hannah (Ryan) Schmitz and Tanner Jones; seven great-grandchildren: Vivian, Blythe, Wren, Wyatt, Declan, Eva and Vincent; three siblings: Sandy Wyborny (Ankeny, IA) William Boyd (Mason City, IA), and Cookie (David) Hazelip (Princeton, IN), and her loving nephew and caretaker, Lee Jones (Mason City, IA).
Memorial services are pending. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Donna J. Jones memory to the Alzheimer’s Association. Donations support both critical research and help for families navigating the challenges of the disease.
