Donald K. Allen Jr.

Donald K. Allen Jr., 80, of Mason City, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2026, surrounded by family. A Celebration of Don’s Life will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N Pennsylvania, from 12-2 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Don will be laid to rest in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, following a private family service.

Donald Allen was born on January 15, 1946, in Mason City, Iowa, to Donald and Rose Mary Allen. He graduated from Mason City High School, class of 1964. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp for four years. Two of those years, serving on the aircraft carrier, Ticonderoga. After his honorable discharge, Donald returned to Mason City and joined the Mason City Police Department as a patrolman, later achieving the rank of detective. He was also the department's firearms instructor for many years. Donald's nickname at the department was "Duck."

Donald was united in marriage to Joyce Hanson in December 1997, they were married for twenty-eight years.

Don was an avid hunter and fisherman and especially loved his coyote hunting. He was also a pretty serious bowler too with one perfect "300" to his credit. He also loved playing cards. Two of his favorite places to play were at Diamond Jo Casino and the Mason City Senior Center with his mom Rose Mary as his partner in crime.

Don was preceded in death by his father, Donald K. Allen, Sr.; his sister, Jeannie Hanson; brothers-in-laws, Roger Gabel and Richard Gabel.

Those left to cherish his memory his wife Joyce Allen; his son Donald K. Allen III (Elizabeth) their children, Avery Finn (Ben) and Kamryn; daughter, Christine Allen (Carrie) and grandchildren, Devin Bush and Sylvia Holloway; stepson, Troy Hanson (Bobbie) their children, Landon Koehler and grandchildren, Josh, Colton and Carson Hanson; stepdaughter, Juneal Struva and her children, Tony and Chanar; his mother, Rose, his siblings, Jimmy Allen (Linda), Bonnie Mosena (John), Linda Dodson (Jim), Susan Flores, and Marty Allen (Shelley); as well as many nieces & nephews.
