Deborah S. Fatland

Deborah Sue Fatland, 79, of Mason City, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N Pennsylvania Ave. Visitation will be held one hour prior the service time. Burial will be held in the Black Hills National Cemetery.

Deborah Sue (Parks) Fatland was born on May 14, 1947, in Mason City, Iowa. Her parents were P. Merrill and Grace Marie “Toto” (Schober) Parks. On June 8, 1967, Deborah Parks married Michael D. Fatland in Clear Lake, IA. They celebrated 49 years of blessed married life.

Michael served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years and Deb served along the side of him. When Michael was gone, she would help other military wives on his ship. They lived in California, Hawaii, and Iowa. When he was overseas on a West Pac, she would go over the ports where Mike would be, in the Philippines.

Deborah and Michael had two children, Merrilee and Cole. As parents they taught them different religions and cultures in order to understand others. A definition of mother is affectionate, which she passed on to her children, she was also their best friend and a role model.

What was important to Deb was God, Family and Friends, and she was there for them. A definition of kindness is a quality of being friendly, generous and caring toward others which Deb definitely was. She was always happy and kind, worried about others and all the good qualities that you want in a person, with all the medical issues Deb had, she never complained. She kept her smile up until she passed.

She leaves to mourn her; son Cole M. (Robin) Fatland, of Killeen, Texas, daughter Merrilee Fatland and fiancé Ron Morgan, of Plainfield, Iowa and granddaughter, Stephanie M. (Andrew) Mayo and three great grandchildren; Isabella, Kari and Henley. Brother, Butch (Yennie) Parks, of Fremont, California, sister, Marilyn Belseth, of Clear Lake, Iowa, cousin, Penny Volroth, of Nora Springs, Iowa and a large circle of relatives and friends.

Burial will be in Black Hills National Cemetery in South Dakota beside her husband, Michael who preceded her in death by 8 years and 8 months.
