David Burton Andersen, 83, of Swaledale, passed away Monday, February 5, 2024, at MercyOne Medical Center – North Iowa in Mason City. A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 11, 2024, from 2:00-4:00 p.m., at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania, with Military Honors being conducted at 3:30 p.m., by the Mason City Veterans Association. Memorials may be directed to the family of David Andersen.

David Burton Andersen was born on July 7, 1940, in Mason City, to parents, Otto and Martha (Olsen) Andersen. David attended High School in Forest City, graduating in 1958. After graduation, David proudly served his country in the United States Army, serving in Panama as an engineer, where he received the Good Conduct Medal. David was honorably discharged in 1961. David then went on to serve in the IA and NE National Guard, ending his career in 1988 with the Army Reserve.

On December 11, 1987, he was united in marriage to Joyce Lewis in New London, Iowa. The couple did almost everything together and truly considered one another their best friend.  From April of 1999 to April of 2007, David owned and operated Dave’s Bar and Grill in Thornton, and the couple had many fond memories of the customers that turned into lifelong friends.

David was an avid fisherman in his younger years. He enjoyed deer hunting and while owning Dave’s Bar and Grill, he looked forward to going to Canada with friends to fish. He enjoyed playing pool with many of the customers. He loved to fish on Clear Lake, and spending time with his beloved dogs and cats, who meant the absolute world to him. They never barked or meowed orders back to him. On Thursdays, Dave looked forward to going to West Fork Food Bank and socializing with friends. Dave will be deeply missed by those who knew him and loved him.

David is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Joyce Andersen; children, Tina Andersen, Jason (Hannah) Andersen, John (Katie) Andersen; nine grandchildren; his dogs and his cats, Friskie, Luna, Lady, Junior, and Koko.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, David S. Andersen; brothers, James Andersen, and Morton “Bill” Andersen; and parents-in-law, Roy and Donna Lewis. Along with many beloved dogs and cats.
