Cloydine Kay Haugen, 83, of Rockwell, Iowa passed away at home on December 23, 2025. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Kay was born on March 9, 1942 in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Cloyd O. and Gerta C. (Scobee) Brown. She attended the Mason City School District and in 1960, graduated from Mason City High School. In 1978, she received a clerical diploma from NIACC. In 1960, Kay was married to Ronald Hejna, and of this union one son was born. The family lived in the Garner area for 14 years, before returning to Mason City in 1974. In 1988, Cloydine married Robert A. Haugen at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, and lived in Rockwell until the time of her death.
During her life, Kay worked as a waitress at various restaurants, and at NIACC’s Learning Center for nearly 25 years, where she took great pride in assisting students and GED candidates. She was an AVON representative in 1966, 1978-1980, and from 1999 until March 2014. Her interests were widespread, including spending time with her family, close friends, and pets, dining out, growing flowers, baking, making fudge, watching movies, dancing, roller skating, and traveling. During her lifetime, Kay enjoyed journeys to Missouri, Minnesota, Mississippi, the western states, and the north shore. She especially loved the mountains and the ocean.
Cloydine is survived by her son, Ronald Scott Hejna, Jr.; brother-in-law, Kenneth Chase; in-laws, Wanda (Deets) Neve, Linda (Marv) Betels, Gary (Mary Ellen) Haugen, Larry (Laurie) Haugen; special friend, Jim Turner; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Special to her were her extended families, JoAnne MacNabb and friend, Larry Cameron, the Ronald Hejna family, and many close friends. Her family, pets, and friends were her greatest treasures.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Haugen; her parents and grandparents; sisters, Marie Marsh, Betty J. Price, Naomi R. Flett, and Gertrude Chase; brother, Dennis O. Brown; brothers-in-law, Lyle M. Price and Deane T. Flett; mother-in-law, Wilma Haugen; and father-in-law, Harold Haugen.
