Charles "Gus" F. Sanders

Charles F. Sanders, 61, passed away on September 13, 2026. During his final weeks, he was surrounded by the love and support of his family, who treasured every moment they were able to spend with him. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.

Charles loved to laugh—and he loved making other people laugh just as much. He had a way of bringing humor into everyday moments and could often be found quoting lines from his favorite movies. His favorite movies starring Sylvester Stallone. He loved talking about the old times, sharing stories, and reminiscing about the people and moments that meant the most to him.

Above all else, Charles loved his family. He cherished his wife, Michelle, and took great pride in his children, Mariah, Julie, and Jeremiah. His grandchildren, Blake, Nathanial, and Niklaus, held a very special place in his heart. His family was his greatest source of love and joy.

Charles was proud of his Italian heritage and enjoyed the traditions, stories, and connections that came with it. He loved to cook, good food and looked forward to going out to eat with the people he loved. The Iowa State Fair was another favorite, and he enjoyed spending time there making memories. He also enjoyed spending time with his dog, Lino.

A devoted football fan, Charles proudly followed the Iowa Hawkeyes, Iowa State Cyclones, and Kansas City Chiefs.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, William J. Sanders (October 24, 1943 – February 14, 2007) and Charlene Andreano-Day (December 11, 1943 – October 2, 2017).

He is survived by his wife, Michelle; his children, Mariah Wissmiller, Julie Hurley (Kyle), and Jeremiah Sanders; his grandchildren, Blake, Nathanial, and Niklaus; and his siblings, Joe Kernen (Lisa), Terie Sanders, Denise Wilson (Pete), Dianna Bucher (Gary), Armando Burriola (Tina), Jennifer Sanders, and Amy Hollingshead (Thad).

Charles will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His laughter, his stories, his love of family, and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of those he leaves behind.

Rest in peace, Charles. You will be loved, remembered, and missed always.
