Charles C. Caponi III

Charles Carmelo Caponi, III was born July 30, 1952, in Mason City, IA to Charles C. and Wanda (Jenison) Caponi. He died at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City on May 3, 2024.

Chuck, or Carm if you were family, was a talented musician and song-writer who was known for his self-deprecating sense of humor. He was a lover of guitars and history. Carm graduated from Mason City High School and worked as a printer at various companies in Mason City, most recently at D&D Sales.

Carm was united in marriage to Kimberly (Smith) Caponi on December 28, 1991 at the Mason City Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was a father-figure to his nephews, niece, great-nephews, and great-niece as well as a favorite “uncle” to many children of church friends and co-workers.

He is survived by his wife, Kimberly; nephews, Jason and Timothy Despenas; niece, Molly Pals (Justin); great-nephews, Braiden (Sherresse), Tavin, Max, and Trenton Despenas; great-niece, Maya Despenas; their mothers, Michelle Peterson, Jamie Peterson, and Terri Stewart; great-great-nephews, Karmello and Khaleo Despenas; Mollie’s children, Cayden, Piper, Giana, Sicily, Abel, Bentley, and Katalinya; his cat, Chunk; and a host of friends.

Carm was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Wanda Caponi; his sister, Stephanie Bohl; Mollie’s son, Phoenix; and her unnamed baby girl, and his beloved cats, Kolby and Thumbs.

At his request, Carm was cremated. His mother was the oldest of 16 children and Carm had 68 first cousins. A private memorial will be held with the family this summer. Memorials may be directed to the Humane Society of North Iowa.
