Bruce L. Gettman, 74, of Mason City, died Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday, February 14, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with Pastor Kathy Graves officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue at the church Friday one hour before services. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church or Salvation Army. Bruce was born September 1, 1939 in Mason City the son of George and Sarah Pearl (Shaner) Gettman. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1957. At age 17, Bruce went to work for Pritchard Motor Company beginning a 48 year relationship with Ford Motor Company. He would go on to work for Schukei Ford and Don Lafrenz Ford serving as sales manager. Bruce retired in June of 2005 from Don Lafrenz Ford. Bruce had a knack for never forgetting the names of his customers plus the model of car they bought. After retiring, Bruce could be found at the Rice Lake Golf Course Monday through Friday playing golf. He was known to be the first one on the course in the spring, and the last one on the course in the fall. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities and was an Iowa Hawkeye and Minnesota Twins fan. Bruce was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and volunteered delivering kettles for the Salvation Army during the holiday season. Bruce is survived by Marlene Kruger of Mason City; son, Bruce and Suzanne Gettman Jr. of Cedar Falls; daughter, Scarlet and Mike Aastrup of Ankeny; grandchildren, Alicia and Zack Grubb of Ankeny, Melissa and Aaron Nord of Ankeny, John Aastrup of Denver, Colorado, Ashley Gettman of Denver, Colorado, Lindsey Gettman of Cedar Falls, Katie Gettman of Cedar Falls, and Molly Gettman of Cedar Falls; great grandson, Cael Grubb; brother, Ron and Joan Gettman of Mason City; sisters, Dorothy and Robert Ornberg of Coarsegold, California, Marvyl Buehner of Daytona Beach, Florida, Faye and Marlyn Lee of Mason City, and Lynda & Doug McMannes of Mason City; Marlene’s family, Lori and Mark Alitz of Mason City, Jean and Royce Schultz of Mason City, Dylan Alitz of Cedar Falls, Autumn Alitz of Cedar Falls, Landon Schultz of Brookings, South Dakota, Meagan Schultz of Iowa City, and Weston Schultz of Mason City; brothers-in-law: Loren and Kay Brunsvold of Huntsville, AL and Jere Graetz of Burnsville, MN. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Ray and Robert; sister, Darlene Francis, and nephew, Jimmy McMannes. Bruce was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, a kind friend, and a good man. We thank God for our time with him.
