Alan L. Davis, 76, of Mason City, lowa, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at MercyOne North lowa Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, with Mark Doebel officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.
Alan Laverne Davis was born in Hampton, lowa on March 21, 1949, and called Hansel, lowa his home before later moving to Mason City, where he graduated high school. Alan was a hard worker, and was employed by AC Supply, and later Kaman Industrial Technologies for over 30 years before his ultimate retirement.
Alan spent 52 years together with his wife, Vickie Kay Davis, and adored the family they built together, from the couple's own children to his grandchildren, great-granddaughter, and his array of nieces and nephews. He took great pride in attending all of their sporting events, concerts, birthdays, and other ceremonies, whether he was acting as a guiding hand or simply a joyful spectator. In his spare moments, Alan loved spending time in the great outdoors. Those closest to him have fond memories of sitting around the bonfire with him, enjoying the warmth of his company as much as the warmth of the flames. Alan would take his loyal canine companion Roxanne out with him on their own adventures, or otherwise to simply enjoy a moment of peace with each other. At other times, Alan could be found in the garage, tinkering on cars or other projects with his son, Cody, or going to car shows to admire the work of others. His generous love for his family and his friends will be sorely missed.
Alan is survived by his wife, Vickie Kay Davis; stepmother, Lana McElroy; children, Misty (Tom) Baumgartner, Nicole Johnson, Cody (Laurie) Davis; grandchildren, Miranda Johnson, Ryan, Jared, Justin, and Lauren Gilmore; great-granddaughter, Brielle; sisters, Lori (Scott) Devary and Leslie (Justin) Tarr; brother-in-law, Victor Johnson; sisters-in-law, Valerie Smith and Julie Johnson; close family friend, Tim Gilmore; and nieces and nephews, Brandi, Aurora, Dave, Jenna, Jordain, Melissa, Clayton, Brandon, Sara, Christopher, Mackenleigh, Stanton, and Tayleigh.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Everett and Elsie Merrill; parents, William and Ruth McElroy; grandson, Keegan Baumgartner; sister- and brothers-in-law, Debra Powell, James Powell, and Vern "Butch" Johnson; great-nephew, Devlin Obregon; his mother-, father-, and grandmother-in-law; several aunts and uncles; and his fur babies, Angel and Bandit.
