WEST TERRE HAUTE, IN: William Ludwick Martin, 74, of West Terre Haute passed away at 5:30 a.m. Sunday September 14, 2008 in the Richard L. Roudebush Veterans Medical Hospital at Indianapolis. He retired as a truck driver after many years of service. He was born November 21, 1933 at Mason City, IA to William F. Martin and Minda Askelson Martin. Survivors include: His wife of thirty five years, Norine Hillier Martin; eight children, William L. Martin and his wife, Barb of Greene, IA, Peggy Wefel and her husband, Allen of Cedar Rapids, IA, Linda Martin and her companion, Ed Shaw of Waterloo, IA, Ralph Michael Mike Martin and his wife, Tonya of Nashua, IA, Karen Reisem and her husband, Jeff of Greene, IA, Paul Monsen and his wife, Ruth Ann of White Pidgeon, MI, Sheryl Bilotta and her husband, Jack of West Liberty, IA, and Joleen Klotz and her husband, John Klotz II of West Terre Haute; his previous wife, Opal S. Martin of Charles City, IA; three brothers and sisters in law, Clayton and Doris Martin of Charles City, IA, Eli and Gladys Martin of Ashland, KY, and Harlan and Kelly Martin of Donnellson, IA; twenty one grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Kathleen Joy Martin and Mary Kay Martin; a son, Patrick Steven Martin; four brothers, and one sister. He was a member of the St. Mary Of The Woods Village Catholic Church. He was a decorated combat veteran of the Korean War serving in the U. S. Marine Corps and receiving two purple hearts, and three bronze battle stars. He was a Golden Gloves Boxing Champion while serving in the Marines. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 972 at Terre Haute. He loved Gardening, fishing, Bingo, and traveling. He was very proud of his grandchildren and Family serving in the military. Cremation has been chosen. A Memorial Mass will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the St. Marys Village Catholic Church with Rev. Bernard Head officiating. Visitation will be 4:30 p.m. until service time Thursday in the Church. There will also be services in Mason City, Iowa at 1:00 p.m. Sunday September 21, 2008 at Major-Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Rev. Kenneth Gehling officiating.
