William L. "Bill" Otto

July 9, 1949 — January 23, 2016

William L. “Bill” Otto, 66 of Mason City, passed away unexpectedly Saturday January 23, 2016 at his home. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 30, 2016, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Pastor Ed Bard, Chaplain Hospice of North Iowa, officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to the William Otto Memorial Fund.

Bill was born on July 9, 1949 the son of John and Marie (Mortenson) Otto in Red Wing, Minnesota. Bill grew up in Wanamingo, Minnesota and graduated from Wanamingo High School in 1967. Bill entered the Minnesota National Guard after high school and achieved the rank of Specialist 5th Class in charge of radio communications from 1967-1972.

He married Bonnie Grendahl in 1968, had two children and later divorced. He married Judy Somers Lockman in 1987.

Bill started working in 1970 at the Kenyon Farmers Implement, as a parts manager, and held the same position throughout his career at various other locations throughout his life. Bill retired from Mason City Red Power in June of 2014.
Bill enjoyed sports, especially the Vikings and the Twins, collecting Case IH tractors and memorabilia, enjoyed yardwork and landscaping, helping the elderly, antiquing and spending time with his grandchildren. Bill especially enjoyed his time and love for his pet cats.

Bill is survived by his wife, Judy, of 29 years, his ex-wife Bonnie, son Tim Otto, daughter Brenda (Otto) Wells, step children Tami Lockman, Billy (Tara) Lockman, grandchildren Kayla Otto, Hunter and Jada Wells, step grandchildren Tyler, Chelsey, Ava and Dylan Lockman, brothers and sisters, Bob (Nan) Otto, Bev (John) Davidson, Carolyn (Deryl) Rogers, Pat (Wally) Stenzel, Lucy (Jack) St. John, Marlene Otto, Darlene Lundell and John Otto, along with many relatives, friends and co-workers.

Mr. Otto was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Charlie.
