William K. Shoop

March 28, 1940 — July 9, 2008

Mason City - William (Bill) K. Shoop, 68, of Mason City, died Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa.  Funeral Services will held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2008 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 100 First St. NE in Mason City with Pastor John Byrne officiating.  A private burial service will be held at a later date.
 
Bill was born on March 28, 1940 in Mason City, the son of Cecil W. and Marie (Christopherson) Shoop.  He graduated  from Clear Lake High School in 1958.  On December 30, 1958, he was united in marriage to Karen D. Heinrich in Clear Lake.  To this marriage three daughters were born: Kim, Lisa, and Pam.  Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1961.  For the past twenty years Bill was employed by the Mason City Transit System and Retirement Housing Foundation, Long Beach, California.  He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ.  Bill is survived by his loving wife, Karen.  Daughters: Kim (Bill) Vierkant of Alexander, Iowa; Lisa (Mike) Degen of Mason City; and Pam (Paul) Bartholomew, also of Mason City.  Ten grandchildren: Dillon Vierkant, Merservey, and Marissa Vierkant, Alexander; Derek, Cole, and Zach Degen of Mason City; Mattison, Lucas, Alicia, Tyler, and Alex Bartholomew, also of Mason City.  Two brothers: Jim (Linda) Shoop of Brooklyn Park, MN. and John (Karie) Shoop of Mason City.  One brother-in-law: Ron Heinrich of Rio Vista, CA.; and one sister-in-law, Ramona Osborne of Templeton, CA.; as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Marie Shoop; his mother and father-in-law, Gus and Francis Heinrich; one brother-in-law, Don Osborne; one nephew, Allen William Shoop; and one step-niece, Melissa Jacques.
